Fact Set #1: Pipe fitter

Duane La Chance, a pipe fitter for Gross Engineers, suffered third-degree burns Wednesday afternoon installing new pipes on the roof of the Springfield Municipal Power Plant and is now in the intensive care unit at Springfield Hospital.

A Springfield man suffered third-degree burns 3 p.m. yesterday and is now in intensive care after he touched a power line carrying 15,000 volts while installing new pipes on the roof of the Springfield Municipal Power Plant, at 222 Power Dr.

Fact Set #2: Car accident

James W. Cunning, 20, is in the hospital now after his 2005 Ford Focus was struck by the vehicle driven by Wayne Clay, 19, after Clay apparently crossed the center into southbound traffic on U.S. 63 at about 11:45 Saturday morning.

Two Springfield men were involved in a two car accident when one driver crossed the center lane and struck the other vehicle as it was heading southbound on U.S. 63 at 11:45 Saturday morning sending the driver to the hospital.

  1. 1a: Tighten up our first lead: Pipefitter Duane La Chance suffered third-degree burns Wednesday afternoon while installing new pipes... We don't need to know who is employer is in the lead. That can come in P2.

1b: Good, but tighten it up a bit more. ...after he touched a 15,000-volts power line...

2a: Just ID the injured guy in the lead. Getting both of their names in there makes for a bulky lead.
2b: Start with the injured guy -- that's what makes it news. Otherwise, it could just be a fender-bender.
